PSALM 15
- Lord, who shall abide in Thy tabernacle? Who shall dwell in Thy holy hill? KJV
DEFINITIONS
Abide -c) dwell, assemble, gather together, inhabitant, remain, sojourn, stand.
Dwell -c) to permanently stay, abide, continue, stay, have habitation, remain, rest.
This is a Psalm of David. It is interesting to note the same words we had last night in John 15 – abide and dwell. the meanings are slightly different because they are the Hebrew words from the Old Testament.
I like the definition for abide which also means stand. We must be very aware of our spirit and make sure that we are standing before the Lord and in His presence. He means that we are spiritually strong and sanctified enough to be in God’s presence without wanting to run the other way. That is what sin will cause you to do – run away from God like Adam and Eve.
The definition of dwell is more of a permanent position so as to remain and find rest. We find rest when we can keep our eyes on the power of God in our life instead of our circumstances and weaknesses. It brings such peace and comfort.
2. He that walketh uprightly, and worketh righteousness, and speaketh the truth in his heart. KJV
This is telling us that the blameless and those who do not listen to the lies of the enemy will stand in His presence. There are so many ways the devil will lie to you about yourself and about God. We must always pray for the Lord to reveal our hearts to us. Only He knows them.
3. He who does not slander with his tongue, nor does evil to his friend, nor takes up a reproach against his neighbor. Amp.
Our words are so very important. It does not matter if what we say is the truth or not. We are not to gossip and ruin someone’s reputation. Slander is wrong in every way. We are not even to blame someone even when they are wrong. Let someone else do it. We must keep our mouth shut if we want to stand in God’s presence.
4. In whose eyes a vile person is despised, but he honors those who fear the Lord – who revere and worship Him; who swears to his own hurt and does not change. Amp.
We love those who love the Lord. It hurts in church when you see those who are not affected by the worship. But when you see someone get excited about the Lord or when you see their tears, it brings great joy!
5. He who does not put out his money for interest to one of his own people, and who will not take a bribe against the innocent. He who does these things shall never be moved. Amp.
We are never to try to make money off of God’s people. They are family and you would not charge your child interest if you lent him money. We are to help them and not be an extra burden.
We know this is the Old Testament before Jesus died for our sins on the cross, Now we have Jesus and all that He is that will help us to stand. Even if we obeyed all of Psalm 15 we could not make it without the Blood of Christ. He alone will cause us to be blameless before a Holy God!
Although sin separates us from God, we can come boldly to find grace and mercy in the time of need. Once we repent, he is faithful to forgive and restore. We don’t need to run away from him. ❤️🙏🏾
