PSALM 16

5. The Lord is my chosen and assigned portion, my cup; You hold and maintain my lot.

When Jame’s and John’s mother asked Jesus to let her 2 sons sit one on the right side of Him and one on the left side of Him, He told her that she did not realize what she was asking? Then He asked James and John if they were able to drink His cup and be baptized with His baptism. They said yes. (Matthew 20:20-22)

Matthew 20:23 He said to them, You will drink My cup, but the seats at My right hand and left are not Mine to give, but they are for those for whom they have been ordained and prepared by My Father. Amp.

Psalm 16 is such a wonderful Psalm. We always see the blessings of joy and safety. But here we see that if the Lord is our portion and our cup it may include some very hard trials and persecution. James was killed pretty soon after Calvary and John was arrested and sent to Patmos for witnessing to the Word of God and testimony that Jesus was resurrected and the Son of God.

How many of us have witnessed that the Word of God is true, and Jesus is the Son of God and did rise from the dead? Most of us can answer yes to that question and yet where is the cup of Jesus?

I believe there is great persecution now days, it just has a refined flavor. But I do believe times and persecution will get worse. We must also answer Jesus’ question: Are you able to drink My cup and be baptized with My baptism?
