PSALM 147
- Praise the Lord! For it is good to sing praises to our God, for He is gracious and lovely; praise is becoming and appropriate.
- The Lord is building up Jerusalem; He is gathering together the exiles of Israel.
- He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds – curing their pains and sorrows. Amp.
Here again we are told how good it is to praise the Lord. There must be exiles for Him to gather. There must be broken hearts for Him to heal. I bet they go together. How many have left their Church because of some painful misunderstanding? The Lord sees every attack of the enemy and is always mindful of their wounds. He is in control and will not let His Church be stripped and plundered of its pillars.
In verse 4 He determines and counts the stars and calls them by name. How much more does He know and pay close attention to those His Son bled for? He chooses the humble and casts down the wicked. He is so great, and we are told again to sing praises to Him with thanksgiving, vs. 7. He takes pleasure on those who do sing His praises.
Psalm 147:12 Praise the Lord! O Jerusalem! Praise your God, O Zion! 13. For He has strengthened and made hard the bars of your gates; and He has blessed your children within you.
He is talking to His bride, Jerusalem. He is the Father, and she is the mother of His children. He makes peace within her borders and fills with the finest of wheat, vs. 14. He is not talking about physical Jerusalem. I do not believe they have ever had true peace within their borders. But with Jesus, we have Him for our bread of life which is the finest of wheat and He is our perfect peace.
In verses 16 through 18 He sends the snow, wind, cold and ice. And then melts it again. And through it all we see and honor Him.
He gives us His Word and statutes and we are truly blessed above all nations of the earth! (19-20)
