PSALM 18
6. In my distress (when seemingly closed in) I called upon the Lord and cried to My God; He heard my voice out of His temple (heavenly dwelling place), and my cry came before Him, to His very ears.
7. Then the earth quaked and rocked; the foundations also of the mountains trembled, they moved and were shaken, because He was indignant and angry.
15. Then the beds of the sea appeared, and the foundations of the world were laid bare at Your rebuke, O Lord, at the blast of the breath of Your nostrils.
16. He reached from on high, He took me, He drew me out of many waters.
17. He delivered me from my strong enemy, and from those who hated and abhorred me; for they were too strong for me. Amp.
Psalm 18 is a Psalm of David. He is praising God for delivering him from the hand of Saul and other enemies. It is such a beautiful picture and outline of what we need to do to find the safety of the Lord.
Right before I started writing this post, I tried to check the temperature for tomorrow. Every time I tried it cut off and went blank. So, I looked at my news feed and saw the report of so many tornadoes in Florida today. My daughter lives in St. Petersburg so I was interested in the damages. At that moment she was under a Tornado Warning which is odd for Florida.
There was a lot of damage across the state, but not in her area as yet. Then I finally saw the temperatures for the week and how it is going to plummet by Sunday. Plus, there has been another earthquake in Japan. They seem to have had a lot lately. Then I read Psalm 18. It all sounds like it must go together.
I do believe Psalm 18 is a picture of the last days remnant and how they will be protected and avenged. At the same time, He humbles man. The weather is always a tool He can use to bring man to a place of paralysis. Man cannot fight or control a tornado. He cannot control freezing temperatures and icy roads. He can try to salt the roads. But it will only work if the Lord wants it to.
I remember in 1978, we had 17 inches of snow that stayed for quite a while. And it was no fun. The trucks had a hard time getting to the stores. The food supply was not good. Temperatures did not let the snow melt for it seemed like forever. We should never take the good weather for granted.
Verse 7 says, “He was indignant and angry.” Why was He so mad? He is not happy with the way David is being treated and came to stop it. He rewarded David and gave him victory over his enemies. They were not able to rise while David was made the head of the nations.
Psalm 18:35 You have given me the shield of Your salvation and Your right hand has held me up; Your gentleness and condescension have made me great. Amp.
The Lord is so gentle and loving with those who love and trust Him. That is the best part of Him. How can He be so great and lower Himself to be with us in all of our weakness. But He comes and it changes us. His presence makes things wonderful in the midst of painful trials. That is what made David great. And it will make us great if we let it.
