PSALM 16
6. The lines are fallen unto me in pleasant places; yea, I have a goodly heritage.
DEFINITIONS
Lines -c) a measuring line; a district or inheritance; country.
Heritage -c) something inherited; to occupy; portion.
Let’s take a deeper look into Psalm 16. What is meant by lines. It would be like your back yard. You keep within the boundary lines of your property. We are not responsible to cut the grass for any yard but our own. We take care of what belongs to us only.
David is saying that we have a portion given to us by God. Is it good or bad? If our life is messed up, it is probably bad. We want things to go good and peacefully all the time. But sometimes things can get messed up.
When we keep the Lord continually before us as it says in verse 8, we are blessed. What do we keep before us. It is so easy to get sidetracked in this complex computer oriented world of today. We must keep the Lord in the right place. We must have a spiritual computer screen with the Lord on it continually. That is where He wants us to live. Not with the world continually before us.
How many have their cellphones right in front of them almost 24/7? That is their portion because they have chosen it before the Lord. That causes unrest and chaos in a life according to Psalm 16.
If we keep the Lord continually before us, we will have a good inheritance and portion. Then we will be blessed with verse 11. He will show us the path of life and we will be in His presence which brings fullness of joy and pleasures forever more.
Is that the way most people in this world live today? Maybe they should lay down the screens that they set continually before them.
