This face in the sky last month was said to be caused by extremely cold air spilling into the stratosphere over Europe. It is called a Polar Vortex.
They said a giant bank of polar stratospheric clouds (PSCs) escaped the Artic Circle and for more than a week they filled the European skies with psychedelic color. They expect it to happen more this winter.
