PSALM 20

  1. The Lord hear thee in the day of trouble; the name of the God of Jacob defend thee;

  3. Remember all thy offerings, and accept thy burnt sacrifice; Selah.
  4. Grant thee according to thine own heart and fulfil all thy counsel.
  5. We will rejoice in Thy salvation, and in the name of our God we will set up our banners: the Lord fulfil all thy petitions.
  6. Now know I that the Lord saveth his anointed; He will hear him from His holy heaven with the saving strength of His right hand.
  7. Some trust in chariots, and some in horses: but we will remember the name of the Lord our God.
  8. They are brought down and fallen; but we are risen, and stand upright.
  9. Save, Lord; let the King hear us when we call. KJV

DEFINITIONS

Zion -c) a monumental or guiding pillar – a desert, solitary place, wilderness.

Just look at all the great promises we have in Psalm 20. David is praying and asking for help that he believes he will receive. He knows the Lord will hear him in the day of trouble. He trusts in the name of the God of Jacob which means His character. He knows He is good and faithful and will be everything he needs. There is no doubt or fear because David knows his God.

David has had enough dealings with the Lord and knows His character. But the Lord wants to hear from us when we are in trouble. And He wants our cry to be the cry of faith and not fear. He is worthy of all our trust and faith and is looking for that from each of us. That is one reason why trials last so long. He is waiting for our trust. Trust brings rest to the soul. No fear or anxiety can live in a heart of faith and trust. Faith turns fear out of doors.

Hebrews 4:16 Let us then fearlessly and confidently and boldly draw near to the throne of grace – the throne of God’s unmerited favor (to us sinners) that we may receive mercy for our failures and find grace to help in good time for every need – appropriate help and well-timed help, coming when we need it. He sends help out of Zion. Zion is a solitary place and wilderness like the Israelites had to go through. He places us in the same conditions that we will learn His ways as we are refined. If we do not submit to the solitary lifestyle of a wilderness in these modern times, we won’t be refined. He hears our prayer and gives us what we want.

I know I wanted Him and prayed for more and more of Him every day. I did not know He would change my life so drastically. But I did not tell Him how to do it, just that I wanted Him more than anything in this world. And that is what He gave me. Yes, I am alone. But I am alone with Jesus and there is nothing better. I can honestly pray Psalm 20 and expect Him to answer just like He says.

1 John 5:4 For whatever is born of God is victorious over the world: and this is the victory that conquers the world even our faith. Amp.
