PSALM 116
10. I believed – trusted in, relied on, and clung to my God – and therefore have I spoken even when I said), I am greatly afflicted. Amp.
This scripture shows why I like the Amplified version. The King James says, “I believed.” The Amplified says not only, “I believed but also – trusted in, relied on, and clung to my God.” The Lord wants so much more from us. He wants our trust and reliance. He wants us to grab hold of Him and not let go.
There are so many who really believe that just believing He exists is enough. The amplified many times gives the definition of a word right when we need it. What does trust, rely on and cling to mean?
Definitions
Trust -d) firm belief in the honesty, reliability, etc. of some person or thing; faith. Confident expectation; hope.
Rely -d) to trust; depend; have confidence (with on or upon).
Cling -d) to adhere; hold fast as by embracing; to be or stay near.
I can understand the word trust as meaning that I am to be confident in the Lord expecting action from Him. I am to depend upon Him for my help. I am to hang on to Him, staying near to Him, holding fast to Him with my embrace and not letting go.
That requires a lot more from me than just believing that He exists. Some believe that if they are not an atheist, they will make it to heaven. The Lord requires much more from us. This has to do with embracing Him in worship and following Him by staying near to Him. He must be our refuge because we rely upon Him for our needed help.
I still have my Amplified version my late husband Gary bought me for Mother’s Day in 1984. I have tried to buy a new one because it is rather worn out. But when I received a new one, I found that it was not at all like my old one.
The Lord gave me the perfect scripture for me the week my daughter Melanie went into a coma on December 28. It seems these things always happen around Christmas. He gave me Isaiah 49:25 and the last part says, “for I will contend with him who contends with you, and I will give safety to your children and ease them.”
That gave me hope and trust in an impossible situation. It was so painful the I needed to know He was in control. I thought He would heal her, but He took her home. He knew what was right for her and for me. He did give her safety and ease and also me.
When I received my new Amplified Bible, I looked up all my favorite scriptures and found them gone. Isaiah 49:25 simply said, “I will save your children.” I was so disappointed. I put it away and still use my old worn-out Bible. It is just too special to me because of all the special Words He has given to me that Satan would love to steal.
You must be careful what version you read from. It must be the one the Lord wants you to read from. It must have His seal of approval upon it. This is His Word and I believe Satan has infiltrated even those who make the translations to us to hinder the meaning of the words so we might lose their significance.
He definitely caused me to return to my rest and helped me through my daughter’s funeral. She went into a coma on Cheryl’s birthday, and He gave me (Cheryl) a new precious child to love.
The Lord is so good to me!

Hello Wenda, I’m sorry to hear about the passing of your daughter, and I encourage you to hold on to your faith, you will see her again.
I can definetly understand your preferance of your old bible, I have learned that it is in that language that he speaks into your spirit.
I prefer the KJV, and it is how the Lord speaks to me. However, the times that he wants me to go deeper, he will impress a word that I will go looking for in the Strong’s Concordance.
Much of the time there will be so much to take in, that it may take years to glean out what I will find, and I love it.
I have seen your confidence in scripture, and it’s encouaging to me.

Thank You, Pedro. She died in 2007. She was only 25 and suffered so much that it was a blessing for the Lord to take her where she was safe. I learned so much from that time although Satan won but I won a lot of spoils. She got Diabetes at 10 and was on dialysis for 11 months before she died. I know she is with Jesus and her Dad!
I also have my old KJV always handy along with my concordance. I think the KJV has to be the main source. I don’t depend completely on the Amp. I love checking the KJV word in the concordance, too. I agree. It does take years to glean. But there is so much treasure to find.

The enemy’s plans are too short sighted for himself. These are the things that build our faith and confidence, though we don’t see it at the time. It comes through the healing process, and it gives us the ability to comfort others when they experience the same thing.
