PSALM 112

  1. Praise the Lord! – Hallelujah! Blessed – happy, fortunate (to be envied) – is the man who fears (reveres and worships) the Lord, who delights greatly in His commandments. Amp.

This psalm begins with this blessing. It is stating what the man of God must be in order to be blessed. He must fear and worship the Lord and delight in keeping His commandments. This means no complaining. It means he has found all joy in knowing the Lord and serving Him makes him happy. So happy that he fears offending Him in any way that would block His presence from his life.

Obedience is his desire and joy. It doesn’t mean he always gets it right. But he does his best and through the power of the Holy Spirit, he habitually is putting to death the evil deeds prompted by the flesh, (Romans 8:13). Therefore, he is not led by the dictates of the flesh but by the Spirit. Repentance is very important and a way of life and growth.

Then he can look forward to all these blessings from Psalm 112:

  1. Spiritual offspring
  2. Prosperity
  3. Light in dark times
  4. Not be moved
  5. Not be of afraid of evil tidings
  6. Given to the poor
  7. Will be upright forever
  8. Safe from the wicked.
