PSALM 16
- Keep and protect me, O God, for in You I have found refuge, and in You do I put my trust and hide myself.
The more I read Psalm 16 the more I learn and grow in the trials I am sent. I see more each time I read it. In verse 1 David has found the most valuable possession He will ever own. He has the Lord’s protection. But it cost David something.
When we go to put our money in a bank, we want to find one that is reputable and safe. We don’t want one we cannot trust. We want it to protect our money. Now days the banks are not safe as they used to be. We have to take a chance that the bank may fail, and our money may be gone. That is a sad way to live. But I don’t hear of too many people who hide their money in their mattress like they used to either! We all want and need a safe refuge.
We all have trust. Trust is valuable just like money. Where do we place that trust? We must find a good, honest and reputable source. David found the Lord to be a safe refuge and he put his trust and hid himself in God. How did he find Him in that way?
Why did the Lord choose David to be King of Israel and shortly afterward he is running for his life? Because He was preparing David to be a good king. He needed safety. David needed to learn.
We will never place our trust in the Lord when the skies are blue. It is only in the storm that we are driven to find a safe place of refuge. If you have no money, you don’t need a bank. It is only in the hard times that faith is tested and learned. Why? Because we give the Lord the opportunity to show Himself to us.
He is always waiting for us. But we won’t usually come without a need that is painfully used to make us believe. He wants us to personally put our trust in Him to be our protector. That way we won’t have to protect ourselves. We can let go and know He sees all and will stop anything from getting to us that will not work for our good. That is His promise, and He does not lie.
He is the safest place to put our trust and find refuge. We can trust and hide in Him and are safe! This is the lesson we all must learn. One day soon He is coming back. Faith is the most valuable asset we can have. It is much more valuable than money. Money cannot keep you safe. The Lord is the only safe place there is.
