PSALM 36
7. How precious is your steadfast love, O God! The children of men take refuge and put their trust under the shadow of Your wings. Amp.
David starts out this psalm talking about the wicked. He explains how the love of the Lord is so precious. I believe he is saying the love of God is the difference between good and evil.
Men that do not know the love of God do not reject or despise evil. They continue in their sins because there is no fear of God in them. There is also not love of God in them. They do not believe their sins will be found out and hated, (verses 1-2,4).
The steadfast love of God is so precious that men can take refuge and trust under the shadow of His wings. There is an abundant feast that they relish on and drink from the streams of His pleasures. The Lord is so good and shares all He is with us. There is safety in His love. How is something so good possible? We lose His wonderfulness because of sin. (verses 7-8)
If we are not drinking from the streams of His pleasure, there must be sin blocking the way. The problem is always with us. He will never withhold His goodness where it is welcomed. We must always examine ourselves and ask Him over and over why we are not drinking of this stream. He will let us know. Sadness can creep in so easy. We must stay on top of it always to remove any problems that steal. In His Light we see Light! (verse 7).
He will always show us the way. We just have to ask and keep on asking until we get our answer. Sometimes He just is testing us to see how determined we are. Many give up too soon. He wants us to know how the sadness got in so we can keep it from getting in again.
David asks the Lord to continue His loving-kindness to those who know Him. He asks not to let the foot of pride or the hand of the wicked drive him away. These are our enemies, pride and the wicked.
We must keep our eyes on His love and off the enemy and off ourselves. We can easily tell when we are full of His love or full of pride and the oppression of the wicked. We will rise and shine while the wicked will not be able to rise, (verses 9-12).
