PSALM 16

  1. Keep and protect me, O God, for in You I have found refuge, and in You do I put my trust and hide myself. Amp.

David is asking for protection. He needs to be safe from his enemies as we do. He is placing his trust in God. Not in man or the world or himself. We can do all those things and lose our safety. We must know where our trust is placed. We must find refuge in God and not in man or the world or ourselves.

In verse 2 he says to the Lord, “you are my Lord. I have no good beside or beyond You.” He is saying the Lord is his Lord. That means he follows him and serves him. Jesus is Lord of His life. He is sure that he has no good anywhere else but in the Lord! He is faithful to the Lord. and no matter what happens he will be safe.

We serve whom we obey. We serve whose will we obey? We can do our own will or a family member’s will. It is easy to serve another and not pay any attention to what we are doing. If we make Jesus the Lord of our life that means we follow Him. We do His will. We don’t go where we want to go. We don’t eat or drink what we want. We don’t sleep when we want. It is all about Him and not us. We spend our life pleasing Him and not man.

He must lead the way. He must call the shots. He must be the boss. Then and only then is He the Lord of our life! He will not lead us into a place of danger. He will not lead us into a place of disaster. He will lead us beside still waters and restore our soul. He will only do us good. So it is only a wise thing to place our trust in Him and only Him.

Psalm 23:1 The Lord is my Shepherd; I shall not want.
