ISAIAH 60
- Arise, shine; for thy light is come, and the glory of the Lord is risen upon thee.
- For, behold, the darkness shall cover the earth, and gross darkness the people: but the Lord shall arise upon thee, and His glory shall be seen upon thee. KJV
DEFINITIONS
Arise -c) abide, accomplish, endure, establish, make to stand.
Light -c) illumination, happiness, bright, clear, day, light, morning, sun.
Illumination -d) a lighting up; explanation; enlightenment.
Glory -c) splendor; copiousness (abundance); glorious, glory and honor.
Darkness -c) (2822) misery, destruction, death, ignorance, sorrow, wickedness; to be dark (as withholding the light).
Darkness -c) (6205) gloom; as of a lowering sky.
The definitions tell a story. You can read them and see the outline or picture of Isaiah 60. The Hebrew word for arise means more than just arise. We could spend time on each word. We know to be with the Lord, we must learn to abide in Him and His ways. We must endure, meaning to learn patience from the trials we face. We must learn to endure pain.
The word establish means to make stable or settle. And to make to stand, I believe is like endure. We must continue to stand in any attacks we face. It has to do with courage. Plus, I believe it means to stand in the presence of God. And to stand in His presence we must be holy and sanctified and free from sin.
In the time of intense darkness and misery the Lord will arise upon his chosen few who have endured, are established, are abiding in Him and are standing before Him. The darkness covers the earth but gross darkness the people. The people are in a very bad place. They need the Light more than ever. He sends it through a few.
Their light will light up the way and explain with a new enlightenment His Word. They will light up the way with His glory which is full of everything needed in abundance. They will light up the darkness wherever they go.
It will be a very painful time because of the darkness which is God’s judgment. But He sends the answer in the form of those who have been rejected and persecuted, forsaken and hated. He sends spiritual Jerusalem.
