PSALM 91

  1. He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall remain stable and fixed under the shadow of the Almighty (Whose power no foe can withstand). Amp.

Psalm 91 is everyone’s favorite Psalm. It is filled with promises and blessings that we deeply need. How can we be sure that they belong to us? They depend on the first verse. He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High. Where do you dwell? It does not say visit on Sunday. It is where you live.

First of all, and foremost we must be in the Spirit and not in the flesh. Romans 8:7 says the mind of the flesh is sense and reason and death and is hostile to God. If your flesh controls you then you are not dwelling in the secret place of the Almighty.

When you dwell in the secret place you are fixed and stable meaning no ups and downs. You live a calm peaceful life of victory. The devil has been kicked out. You live a life of unbroken fellowship with the Father — in Christ Jesus as it says in Romans 6:11 because your relation to sin is broken and you are alive to God. It doesn’t mean you never fail or sin. But you are aware of it and quickly bring it before the Lord to remove it. Sin does not have dominion over you, Roman 6:14.

The Holy Spirit is in control and leads the way. You follow the Lamb wherever He goes. You don’t sit with the wicked. The wicked does not cook your food. You live a separate life and are cut off from the world but wonderfully attached to the Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

Then… verses 1-16 can apply. He is your refuge and because you trust, lean and rely on Him. Then you are safely under His wings and are not afraid because He is with you. The darkness will not come near you. You are only a spectator, inaccessible in the secret place of the Most High as you witness the reward of the wicked. It is like Abraham when he was high up and looked down on the burning of Sodom and Gomorrah. He was in no danger. It did not come near him. (verses 7-10)

Because you have made Him your refuge and the Most High your dwelling place no evil can come through your door and kidnap your children or hurt you in any way. No evil can come near you.

Verse 14 says because we have set our love upon Him, and we have learned His name which means character in the Hebrew, and we now know beyond a doubt that He will never leave us or forsake us meaning we know we are safely in His arms. Then He will answer when we call. He will deliver us and honor us.

This is what we need to be safe. We have witnessed the horrible murders of the people of Maui and Israel. This is a preview of what is coming. Right now, it does not bring fear because it is so far away. Soon it will be in your area. We need the presence of the Almighty or we will fear. Fear opens the door for evil to enter.

This is what the Lord is saying to me. It is time to make Him your dwelling place not just a visiting place.
