HEBREWS 4
9. So then, there is still awaiting a full and complete Sabbath rest reserved for the true people of God;
7. …Today, if you would hear His voice, and when you hear it, do not harden your hearts.
The Lord is always desiring to speak to His people. If He wants an intimate relationship with us then He is going to speak. But we must learn to hear His voice. We must know that early in our Christian walk He will speak in many other ways, but He will speak. I used to ask Him questions and pray and bind Satan and stick my finger in the Bible and read both pages for an answer to my question. And He did answer me for years that way. He also used David Wilkerson’s and CH Spurgeon’s writings. He would also use the sky and nature in so many wonderful ways.
The key to hearing His voice is obeying what you hear and keeping sin, the flesh and the devil out. If your heart is deeply hungering for a relationship with Him, will He say no? I also have a daily devotional, “Streams in the Desert.” He spoke to me a lot in that wonderful book and in the poems.
There were pages I read that had testimonies of how the Lord spoke to them and it made me want to hear His voice so very much. So, I started praying and binding the spirits that would hinder me from hearing Him speak to me. If you watch TV, you will have too much opposition to even try. You must choose between TV and hearing His voice. You cannot have both.
I had read how those who listen for His voice had to learn to be still. He never speaks to a restless soul. He speaks to the still place of our heart. So, I began to make it a habit every day at the same time after my prayer time to be still and wait for Him to speak. It is not easy at first. Being still is not our natural disposition. I had to be determined and not give up. Finally, one day I heard Him say, “Read Psalm 91.”
That was one of the happiest days of my life. And it has grown to such a wonderful and blessed time of communion that I have with Him. And of course, I have to test the spirits. He does let you hear your own voice of flesh and the voice of the enemy so we will learn the difference and know when He speaks. We must pray and ask continually if this is right or wrong. He will always guide us into the truth.
It is not easy. And I have been heartbroken at times when I thought He said something He did not say. But I learned each time a little more about Him and His character. I learned what He sounds like. I learned His gentleness and love. I learned there is nothing I would rather do than hear Him speak to me. He is absolutely the most wonderful Savior. No words for how wonderful He is to me!
There is no place better in this world than sitting at His feet waiting for Him to speak.
Revelation 3:20 Behold, I stand at the door and knock; if anyone hears and listens to and heeds My voice and opens the door, I will come into him and will eat with him, and he shall eat with Me. Amp.
