ROMANS 8

14. For all who are led by the Spirit of God are the sons of God.

What does it mean to be led by the Spirit? I have heard this scripture quoted many times without explaining it causing the hearers to believe it was an easy thing to be led by the Spirit. But when I read the pertaining scriptures, it is anything but easy.

5. For those who are according to the flesh and controlled by its unholy desires, set their minds on and pursue those things which gratify the flesh. But those who are according to the Spirit and controlled by the desires of the Spirit, set their minds on and seek those things which gratify the Holy Spirit. Amp.

What does it mean “according to the flesh.” I believe it is like an animal like a dog. We all know how a dog lives. He eats as much as he can, he sleeps as much as he can, and he usually barks as much as he can. Are we doing those things or do we allow the Holy Spirit to lead us? Do we give Him control of what we eat, how much we sleep and what we say?

6. Now the mind of the flesh (which is sense and reason without the Holy Spirit is death) – death that comprises all the miseries arising from sin, both hear and hereafter. But the mind of the (Holy) Spirit is life and soul-peace both now and forever. Amp.

7. That is because the mind of the flesh with its carnal thoughts and purposes is hostile to God: for it does not submit itself to God’s law, indeed it cannot.

When we read the scriptures, we can see the main key is to submit to God. We are to be doing His will and His purposes. We must have a renewed mind. That would be the mind of the Holy Spirit or the mind of Christ. We must not reason and think our way through anymore. This is seriously saying that way is death. We must choose life.

We have the Holy Spirit to lean on and show us the way. We are not alone anymore. We don’t have to be the one to figure things out. He will gladly help us and lead us. We just must follow Him and let Him show us the way.

As it says in verse 13, we must be habitually putting to death the flesh. It doesn’t mean we will always get it right. But we are making it a habit to follow the Lamb and let the Holy Spirit lead us. We may mess up, but it is okay as long as we continue to follow Him. We must make it a habit to pursue the things of the Spirit and not the flesh.

  1. And God who is able to keep us from falling, will present us blameless before his throne. You are right Wenda. When we surrender to the Holy Spirit, he helps us to remain pure and holy. Bless you. 🙏🏾❤️
