COLOSSIANS 2
2. That their hearts might be comforted, being knit together in love, and unto all riches of the full assurance of understanding, to the mystery of God, and of the Father, and of Christ;
3. In Whom are hid all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.
6. As ye have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk ye in Him:
7. Rooted and built up in Him, and stablished in the faith, as ye have been taught, abounding therein with thanksgiving. KJV
This is telling us that all we need is in Jesus. We must not just get saved and go our own way trying and failing to be holy in our own strength. We must walk in Him having the roots of our being firmly and deeply planted in Him. We must be fixed and founded in Him – being continually built up in Him (AMP.)
The Amplified also says walking in Him means to regulate and conduct our lives in union with and conformity with Him. We must be in cooperation with the Holy Spirit, following Him and not our own mind and will.
What does it mean to be rooted and built up in Him? If you have a healthy plant and plant, it in unhealthy soil that is full of sand and rocks, it will most likely die. We must choose what soil we are rooted in.
This would have to do with the teachings we are exposed to, the music we worship to and the people we fellowship with. We must pray about all we do, binding the spirits that would influence us in any way to get us off track. We must be constantly saying yes to the Lord.
We must also have our time of communion with the Lord. This is so vital to a healthy soul. It is like a marriage. If you never had your time of intimacy alone with your spouse, your relationship would suffer, and you would not be as close.
Our intimate times with the Lord reveal His love to us and roots us and knits us to Him. There is no place where you will grow as much as alone with Him. That is where roots grow, in the dark where no one can see but Him. We must be like the trees. If we have strong roots, we will have healthy fruit.
In Him we have access to all we need. And He loves to share all He has. It truly builds our faith when we spend time with Him. Then we can ask Him for any spiritual need we have, and He will gladly supply it. We must ask with faith believing that we receive, Mark 11:24.
