PSALM 42
- As the hart pants and longs for the water brooks, so I pant and long for You, O God.
- My inner self thirsts for God, for the living God. When shall I come and behold the face of God!
- My tears have been my food day and night, while men say to me all day long, Where is your God?
When you read this slowly and look for the depth of meaning, it is quite wonderful. The Lord tells us in Psalm 27 to seek His face and require and inquire for His presence as our vital need. That is what we see here in Psalm 42.
The Psalmist is so very distraught that the enemy is attacking him over it and making it very difficult for him to accomplish. Once you have tasted His goodness and felt the joy of His closeness it makes you want so much more. He fills that need that we have deep inside that only He can fill. When that need goes unmet for some time, it creates a void inside that is empty and dry.
That void is there for a purpose. It is meant to bring us to that place where we seek Him with all our hearts, mind and strength. It should be the most important thing in your life. Everything else is put on hold until you find your Lord.
Yet, I can honestly say I have not heard another person speak of his deep hunger to seek the face of the Lord. The great difference between this generation and that of this Psalmist is the media or some other idol.
If everyone thirsted and sought after the Lord, the way they looked for their misplaced phones we would have some spiritual giants and this land would be experiencing mercy and restoration. Where are the Davids. Elijahs, Pauls and the Josephs?
The Lord does have a hidden remnant that does thirst after and seek Him in this way. They will arise in the last days with the dew of His presence and will bring revival. They are quietly serving Him in the wilderness of His glory basking in His goodness. When judgment falls, they will reap a glorious recompence. The Lord will reveal His own just like He says in Isaiah 62.
Isaiah 62:12 And they shall call them, The Holy People, The redeemed of the Lord; and you shall be called, Sought out, A city not forsaken.
