ISAIAH 58 – THE FASTING CHAPTER

We all have prayers that we need to be answered. We have healings we need. The church is filled with people asking for prayer every Sunday. The answer is in Isaiah 58:5-14.

As a young Christian the Lord has mercy and will allow us to lean on the prayers of others. But as we grow, He expects us to learn how to receive on our own and then pray for others. Isaiah 58 is an outline that teaches us the basics of fasting and the victory of fasting.

Many need healing in their bodies. But how many more need healing of the soul or a broken heart from a bad childhood or marriage? How badly do you want the healing? It is easy to have someone pray with you. But it is so much harder to do what Isaiah is telling us to do. I believe many are stuck in a wilderness of their own making because they need to fast and break the chains the devil has bound them with.

ISAIAH 58:6 Rather, is not this the fast that I have chosen: to loose the bonds of wickedness, to undo the bands of the yoke, to let the oppressed go free, and that you break every enslaving yoke?

Only we know every enslaving yoke in our lives. I know many who have had terrible childhoods and are in need of an inner healing that is painful but not as painful as living with the pain every day. This is the answer for those deep hurts that will stop you from moving on in the plan that God has intended for your life. He won’t let you go until you are ready. If you go too soon, Satan will defeat you eventually. This is God’s way to become a watered garden whose waters fail not, (vs.11).

Isaiah 58:8 Then shall your light break forth as the morning, and your healing (your restoration and the power of a new life) shall spring forth speedily; your righteousness (your rightness, your justice and your right relationship with God) shall go before you (conducting you to peace and prosperity), and the glory of the Lord shall be your rear guard.

If you follow these verses and fast the fast the Lord chooses for you, He will bring healing to your life in every area. It may take a while, but during a fast He always draws nearer and blesses you in ways you have not experienced. He makes it a wonderful experience, but it must be done His way.

Fasting can be one of the most gratifying times of your life. But you must turn off the world. It is a time to be with Him alone. He will teach you how He wants every part of your life and He will recompense you for any painful hard times. Healing and the glory of the Lord is the outcome. Then you will be a repairer, restorer and a rebuilder. He has taught you something so very valuable and will expect you to use it to help others.

Psalm 119:162 I rejoice at Your Word as one who finds great spoil.

  1. Amen Wenda. Fasting and prayer can truly bring about emotional healing. There are some wounds that require support and at times people need to be supported through the deliverance process. Many mature Christian’s can go through these processes alone, and some who aren’t so strong need the help those who are mature and established in faith. 🙏🏾❤️💖🩷🥰😘😍

    1. I know that is true. But I also know the Lord did not let me lean on others and He started me fasting almost as soon as I got saved. I see many who have been saved a long time still leaning on others when they have the strength provided to them.

      1. There are many people on the New Testament who went to Jesus for healing and deliverance. I don’t think we are all equipped to bear our own burdens and I believe the level of deliverance required, determine how much help a person needs. If we think of the man in the tomb cutting himself, he needed the divine intervention of Jesus Christ to set him free. Bless you. ❤️💖♥️🩷

      2. That is exactly what I said. We are to go to Jesus for healing and deliverance. Too many go to man for help instead of going straight to Jesus. I could never carry my own burdens. I am so very thankful He is there every day and hears my cry and sets me free. Blessings always! 🙏💖💃🏾🎵
