MATTHEW 25:13

13. Watch therefore — give strict attention and be cautious and active — for you know neither the day nor the hour when the Son of man will come.

DEFINITIONS

Watch -c) to keep awake; be vigilant.

Vigilant -d) staying watchful and alert to danger.

Danger -d) a thing that may cause injury,

In Matthew 25 the 5 foolish virgins did not have enough oil for their lamps and missed the Bridegroom when He came because of it. They left to buy some more oil and while they were gone the door to them was shut. When they returned, they asked the Lord to open the door to them and He told them, “I do not know you – I am not acquainted with you.” Then comes the warning to watch because you do not know when the Lord is coming back.

What is this saying to us today?

Matthew 6:22 The eye is the lamp of the Body. So, if your eye is sound, your entire body will be full of light; 23. But if your eye is unsound, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the very light in you is darkened, how dense is that darkness.

I believe this is telling us if our eyes are on the Lord and the truth of His Word to us, we will be full of faith and truth. But when we take our eyes off Jesus we start to sink like Peter and lose faith and fear gets in which is the opposite of faith. The final outcome is darkness.

We must stay close to Jesus to keep awake with our eyes focused on Him and the good He has for us. If we do not spend time with Him there will be no faith. We must be very careful where we put our eyes and how we spend our time and what we feed our soul.

There is so much danger all around. There are so many in this world that do not keep their eyes on Jesus, so they walk in darkness. If you spend time with those in darkness, the darkness can get on you. You must pray about all that you do and where you go. You must keep awake and alert to your surroundings. That is where vigilance comes in. Satan is waiting for that one false move you should not make. You must follow the Lamb and not self-will.

When we spend time with the Lord seeking His will for our lives and listening for His voice, we are getting to know Him. It takes time to learn His voice and His will. If you are not sure about something, then do not do it. Wait until He confirms your instructions. If you ask for help, will He not give it?

Matthew 25:13 is telling us to be alert and watching out for danger. We must be praying and using the authority we have been given over the enemy so we and those we pray for do not fall into the traps he has laid all around us. You must be separate from the unclean. You must pray – pray – pray! When you do not know what to do you must make it a habit to ask for help. That is what the Lord wants. He knows we can’t make it. He wants us to lean on and rely only on Him.

Then He will know us and open the door to us when He returns!

Matthew 25:7 Then all those virgins got up and put their own lamps in order.
