JOHN 21:3

3. Simon Peter said to them, I am going fishing! They said to him, And we are coming with you! So, they went out and got into the boat, and through-out that night they caught nothing. Amp.

This is after Jesus had been crucified and had risen from the dead. The disciples did not know what to do without Jesus. They followed Peter back to their old life. They had left their nets to follow Jesus. But now He was gone, and they did not know how to follow Him.

I can picture them in their boat catching nothing all night just like before when Jesus came to them and told them to put out their nets for a haul. They caught so many fish the net almost broke. You know as they set there in the boat with no fish that they could not help but wish they could hear His voice again telling them to cast their net on the other side of the boat. They missed Him so much.

So that is just what Jesus did for them. He came to them and told them to cast their nets on the other side of the boat. He heard their hearts cry and answered them. The Lord loves us so, and knows what we need to help us to go forward.

He came to them and gave them the faith they needed to get to the upper room where they would meet the Holy Spirit. He does the same for us. He leads us on to the place where we will be introduced to more power in our life to overcome the enemy.

ACTS 1:8 But you shall receive power, ability, efficiency and might when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be My witnesses in Jerusalem and all Judea and Samaria and to the ends – the very bounds – of the earth. Amp.

The disciples needed this power to go forward in their faith. Without it they would just go back to being fisherman of fish instead of men. We all need this ability, efficiency and might of the Holy Spirit. The responsibility then falls on the Holy Spirit to get His work done thru us.

Holy Spirit thank you for coming to us and leading us to more faith. Help us to receive more power, ability and efficiency to go forward and become the fishers of men you want us to be.

  1. Amen, so very true! Apart from the Holy Spirit we have nothing to give, and no direction, but with him, we are empowered. I was telling some men that when I write, I want for God to speak into us rather than only to us. I then said, that although I hold a pen in my hand, I need to become His pen in his hand.
    God bless
