EZEKIEL 12:19-20

19. And say to the people of the land, “Thus says the Lord God concerning the inhabitants of Jerusalem in the land of Israel: They shall eat their bread with fearfulness, and drink water with dismay, for their land will be stripped and plundered of all its fullness, because of the violence of all those who dwell in it.

20. And the cities that are inhabited shall be laid waste, and the land shall be deserted and become a desolation; and you shall know — understand and realize — that I am the Lord.” Amp.

DEFINITIONS

Desolate -d) made uninhabitable; laid waste; forlorn; wretched.

Plunder -d) to rob a person by force especially in warfare; to take property by force or fraud; to steal.

waste -d) to destroy.

The Lord continually warned Israel about their idolatry. They did not believe that the Lord would ever allow their beautiful temple to be laid waste. Jeremiah warned for at least 20 years. They just kept gambling with their future, taking chance after chance still hanging onto their idols.

Eventually the temple was taken over by Nebuchadnezzar and took many captives back to Babylon. The Lord would start over with a new generation. We can think of Daniel, Esther, Mordecai, Ezra and Nehemiah and what their life must have been. Their life was actually a blessing compared to those who were living in a slothful state before the captivity began.

We can look at the USA and wonder why it keeps moving farther away from the Lord and His ways. It is no blessing to have so much uninterrupted prosperity when there is so much corruption.

It is God’s mercy to send His plagues, droughts and famine upon His disobedient Church and nation. If they are left alone there is no hope for salvation. We do not want Him to ignore the needs of this corrupt land, like rebellious children who have no one who cares enough to discipline them.

It is no coincidence that the middle of Jerusalem is “USA.” This land was to be a Light to the nations, preaching Jesus to a dark world. This light is not a reflection of who Jesus is, but a Gospel of Flesh and unending prosperity is what others think of the Church of the USA.

Revelation 18:4 says to His people to come out from Babylon that you may not share in her plagues.

Revelation 18:7 To the degree that she glorified herself and reveled in her wantonness — living deliciously and luxuriously – to that measure impose on her torment and anguish and tears and mourning. Since in her heart she boasts, I am not a widow; as a queen (on a throne) I sit, and I shall never see suffering or experience sorrow.

8. So shall her plagues (afflictions, calamities) come thick upon her in a single day, pestilence and anguish and sorrow and famine, and she shall be utterly consumed — burned up with fire; for mighty is the Lord God Who judges her. Amp.

Judgement will come. He has warned us to come out and be separate. Do we take His warning seriously? Or are we too like Israel who gambled upon the mercies of God? One day it will be too late.
