ISAIAH 61:1-3

  1. The Spirit of the Lord is upon me; because the Lord hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; He hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound;
  2. To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord, and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all that mourn;
  3. To appoint unto them that mourn in Zion, to give unto them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the heaviness; that they might be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the Lord, that He might be glorified.

Mourn – c) lamenting.

Lament -d) to feel or express deep sorrow; mourn; grieve.

Zion – c) a term used for Jerusalem – the city of David, a permanent capital, mountain of Jerusalem; a monumental or guiding pillar – a desert, solitary place, wilderness.

The Lord is making a distinction here and is saying that He will especially heal those that mourn in Zion.

Ezekiel 9:4 … Go through the midst of the city, through the midst of Jerusalem, and set a mark upon the foreheads of the men who sigh and groan over all the abominations that are committed in the midst of it. Amp.

The Lord is always testing His people. He is brokenhearted about the condition of His Church. He is looking into hearts to see who agrees with Him. If you can see compromise and cold-heartedness without any pain in your heart, then something is wrong.

The recompense will be a time of healing for all that mourn in Zion. He will leave out no one. He will come and change their condition and lift them out of the ashes and put a new garment of praise upon them. The dreadful heaviness will supernaturally leave, and they will be able to sing as never before. Joy will replace sorrow and the Lord will give them a thankful heart to know Him as they become that tree of righteousness and glorify the Lord.

He said He will comfort all who mourn in Zion. This will be such a great part of the last days harvest. So many broken hearts will be healed that have lamented for years. This is their day of recompense and deliverance. The tongue of the dumb shall surely sing.
