This is the last days chapter, and it is talking about the Church being ready when the Lord comes back. We know we are to watch and pray. We must keep our spiritual eyes open to what the Holy Spirit would show us and see the danger that is around us and others. When we have been through painful trials and afflictions, we can recognize these same trials coming upon others around us and we are to pray for them.
It is easier for us to pray for others at times because we are not personally involved. If you have to watch a small child suffer with sickness it can take a toll on your faith. The Lord will send someone who is not as involved in the suffering to pray with enough faith to fight.
We must keep praying and watching and never stop. The disciples fell asleep in the garden and were not prepared for what was about to occur. After Jesus was crucified, they hid away from the Jews in fear.
Matthew 24:48-50 But if that servant is wicked and says to himself, My Master is delayed and is going to be gone a long time,
49. And begins to beat his fellow servants, and to eat and drink with the drunken,
50. The master of that servant will come on a day when he does not expect him and at an hour of which he is not aware. Amp.
The definition of drunken is to be intoxicated. To be intoxicated means to be poisoned. We always think this means with alcohol. We can get drunk on things besides alcohol. You can overdo anything and become poisoned by it. Self-indulgence is the enemy and if we just give into the flesh, we can become poisoned by sugar or caffeine, or any other thing that we overindulge in.
This scripture is saying that many will become drunken when they believe their Master is not coming soon. We must see how some Churches do nothing without food. Some have food before and after every service. They have special meetings that are always around food. Too much is too much. This is a trap of the enemy.
Luke 21:34 But take heed to yourselves and be on guard lest your hearts be overburdened and depressed weighed down with the giddiness and headache and nausea of self-indulgence, drunkenness, and worldly pleasures and cares pertaining to this life, and that day come upon you suddenly like as trap or a noose.
35. For it will come upon all who live upon the face of the entire earth. Amp.
This is warning us of self-indulgence. We can get drunk on sweets and lose the Holy Spirit in our life. We must be alert to danger and stay awake. For the signs are here that tell us that it will not be long before He returns. We must be ready.
“Some have food before and after every service. They have special meetings that are always around food. Too much is too much. This is a trap of the enemy.” Amen, Wenda! This is so true, and unfortunately this is why we have an epidemic of obesity, diabetes, and heart disease throughout the body of Christ. It’s a trap- and we eat our way right into it. Lord Open our spiritual eyes to the truth!💕
