GENESIS 50:20

As for you, you thought evil against me; but God meant it for good, to bring about that many people should be kept alive, as they are this day. Amp.

We know that Joseph’s life was full of hardship and affliction at the hands of those who were jealous of him. But the Lord always had a plan for him, and he was safe. You cannot say that for his enemies. Just like David running from Saul, he was never in any danger although he may have felt like it at times. They both were being perfected and equipped for the big job the Lord had for them.

There must be a time of sifting and cleansing before the Lord will use us. We know that all things work for our good. We can be sure most of us have not suffered to the extent that David or Joseph suffered. That is not to say our suffering is not of great importance.

Romans 5:3 Moreover – let us also be full of joy now! Let us exult and triumph in our troubles and rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that pressure and affliction and hardship produce patient and unswerving endurance. Amp.

When we suffer with the right attitude we are being molded into perfection. We will be able to handle people who before we would have run the other way. We need patience to deal with others and to forebear their sins. We must learn to walk in forgiveness and God’s love.

Just think about how He loves us all the time, no matter what. He is always more than ready to forgive us and forget the bad we have done. Are we that way with others, or do we hold on to the wrong they have done? He forgets. We remember. His love is so strong and pure and everything that we need.

Joseph and David both had to learn to love and forgive their enemies before they could take their place as leaders. That is why it took so long for them both. We take for granted the love of God in our life always expecting His forgiving love to be there when we are in need.

Now we must learn to love and forgive like Jesus. The only way that will be done is by His Holy Spirit dwelling in us teaching us each step of the way.

1 Corinthians 13:7 Love bears up under anything and everything that comes, is ever ready to believe the best of every person, its hopes are fadeless under all circumstances, and it endures everything without weakening. Amp.

This scripture is saying that there is great power in God’s love in us. It endures everything without weakening. We will be strengthened by His love. In Song of Solomon 8:6 says, “for love is strong as death.” We need this great power. How do we receive His love?

Romans 5 verses 1-4 shows us the way is through suffering, affliction and hardship. But along the way we get to enjoy His favor, peace and the glory of God. We can endure anything when we are compassed about by His great glory. Then in verse 5 the Holy Spirit pours God’s love into our heart and that never disappoints!
