LUKE 12:15

And He said to them, Guard yourselves — the immoderate desire for wealth, the greedy longing to have more; for a man’s life does not consist and is not derived from possessing overflowing abundance, or that which is over and above his needs. Amp.

Definitions

Immoderate -d) without restraint, excessive.

Greedy -d) wanting excessively to have or acquire; desiring more than one needs.

This scripture is telling us to guard ourselves from this desire of having more than we need. The Lord promises to supply our needs, not always our wants. I believe fasting is the key to deliverance from greed.

When we fast, we are giving the Lord control of what we eat. If we stick to it and come to the deliverance that we need, food will not be as important as it was. That has been the case with anything in my life that I have had to do without. It always lost its importance. We must learn to be dependent on Him alone.

There have been plumbing and appliances that have broken down and I could not get them fixed right away. I learned how to live without them. If we are so dependent on modern technology, we could easily become offended and lose faith without certain things. Now is the time to give him control so He can deal with anything that would get in our way.

The Lord supplied just enough manna to last the Israelites for 1 day. You hear of many people who believe that disaster is looming in the future, so they are stockpiling food and supplies. He wants to supply our needs. I have prayed many times to start a Food Bank, or some type of feeding program and the Lord just never led me in that direction. I know He has a plan, and I must follow it.

We must live by faith and when we get too much sometimes our eyes can depend on the too much that we have. That does not mean He does not bless abundantly. I know that He does. I had fasted for so long that I had learned to be abased, Phil. 4:11-13.

He wanted me also to learn to abound. I felt that I had safety in doing without. When He started telling me I could buy more than I was used to, I panicked. I fought Him for so long until I learned this was His prosperity. Now when I want something, I pray about it first and then when I try to purchase it, conditions must be perfect. I can tell when He is saying no by numbers and by circumstances surrounding the purchase.

If He doesn’t want me to have it, then I lose the desire for it. I want Him to be in control or I am not happy. Joy and peace come when He reigns in our life. We need Him to put the restrains on us or we are not blessed. Self will take over and desolation will come.

We must allow Him to guard us from ourselves. And when He does, He does it with so much gentleness and love that we want His restrains always!

Philippians 4:13 I have strength for all things in Christ Who empowers me — I am ready for anything and equal to anything through Him Who infuses inner strength into me, (that is, I am self-sufficient in Christ’s sufficiency). Amp.
