PSALM 77:6

6. I call to remembrance my song in the night; with my heart I meditate and my spirit searches diligently;

DEFINITIONS

Meditate -d) to think about, to contemplate, to plan, intend.

The Psalmist is saying that he must remember his song in the night. He must be living without his song in the night. That would be a dreadful way for a child of God to live. We have access to the Father through the blood of Jesus. They did not have what we have. However, there are times the Lord will not answer us and will withdraw His smile and presence from our lives.

We always hold the keys to our fellowship with the Lord. But sometimes we allow sin to get between us and Him. And then there are times that He will try to teach us something new. We are always growing. We never are to stand still. There is so much to learn in the Kingdom of God. He does not waste time.

If we have been in His presence rejoicing joyfully and suddenly it is gone, what a better way to learn repentance in some area we greatly need it?

What is a song in the night? Nighttime is a time of trial and suffering in the darkness. It is a time that you know the Lord is with you but there is no outward sign that He is near. There is no sunshine of His smile, but He is never out of reach. It is a very hard and lonely time that we all must travel through. It is a very fertile place where faith can grow mightily if we endure it in the right way.

He will eventually send us a song with the perfect words that we know are for us. They are filled with His gentleness, love and compassion. The words open our eyes, and we know He is setting us free. Our struggle is over, and we can rest in His arms of love. We taste of His goodness because He heard our cry.

But if instead we cry the blues and fall into the pit of despair and self-pity, it will just take a lot longer to end. These are times we should be positive and thankful and remember all the good things that He has done for us. We should voice our thankfulness and not complain. This is a time of testing. We can always find something to be thankful for.

If we fail the test, we will have to take it over and over until we pass it, and that is miserable. I know because I have been there. I thought I would never pass the test I kept facing. But somehow, He got me through. But now I am changed and have learned the importance of thankfulness. I must say I learned it the hard way. But I did learn it!

We all must learn the lessons He has for us. There is no other way. Some are painful. Some are joyful. But we must be in cooperation with the Holy Spirit always tender to His touch. He wants us to meditate and think about Him and all of His ways. Our thoughts and our life should revolve around Him and all that He is. That is truly a wonderful way to live.
