MATTHEW 28:19

Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost;

DEFINITIONS

Baptizing -c) to make overwhelmed, wash. – also i.e., fully wet, ceremonial ablution.

Overwhelm -d) to pour down upon and bury beneath, to crush, overpower.

The Lord is sending out His disciples into the world with His Gospel message to teach and baptize them. So many times, in churches we see people getting baptized. We want to believe they have given their life to the Lord and really mean what the baptism symbolizes. Just what does it symbolize?

The definition of baptism is to be overwhelmed or overpowered. It does make a statement to the world that your sins have been washed away. As they are washed away, we are to allow the Father, Son and Holy Spirit to overpower us as we yield our lives to the Holy Trinity giving them control of our life as the old nature is buried and crushed beneath.

This a growing thing. We have to be taught how to yield our lives to the Lord habitually making extinct the evil deeds prompted by the body. We have to know how this is accomplished before we can teach others.

We must make that decision ourselves whether we are going to follow what our flesh wants or follow what the Lord wants. We also must learn how the Holy Spirit leads in our own life before we can teach others. We need to learn His voice and His promptings.

When we first get saved everything is so easy because we have a clean slate. Then when the Lord starts saying give Me this and I will give you that, we are not so quick to obey. He will usually ask us to give up something before He gives something. It does come with a price, but once you give Him what He asks, you see that the price was not as big as you thought. What He gives is so much better.

However, when we ignore the promptings of the Lord and His Holy Spirit, our heart becomes harder to convict. Sin becomes easier and we lose the closeness that we had when first saved. It is so important to obey everything that He asks. We are the ones who receive such great gifts from the Lord as we follow Him. If we don’t how can we teach others?

Many are teaching their own wills to their people making their own disciples. But in the end all works will be judged by fire and exposed for what they are, built on the Lord or built on the flesh. We want to have a reward in heaven so let us carefully follow the Lord in all of His ways so we will always be tender to His voice and His leading.

Isaiah 6:8 Also I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, “Whom shall I send, and who will go for Us?” Then said I, Here I am; send me. Amp.
