After these things the Word of Lord came unto Abram in a vision, saying, Fear not, Abram: I Am thy shield, and thy exceeding great reward. KJV.
Shield -c) protector, defense.
Exceeding -c) vehemence, wholly, speedily.
Vehement -d) acting or moving with great force.
Reward -d) something given for something done.
Abram had just defeated the kings of Sodom and Gomorrah. He brought back many goods that had been stolen but gave them back. He wanted only what the Lord, the Most High God, the Possessor of Heaven and Earth had given unto him.
Abram passed the test. There are times Satan will dangle temptations before you that do not compare to what the Lord has for you. If you settle for the smaller, temporary blessings it may cost you greatly.
The Lord appeared to Abram and told him, “I Am thy shield and thy exceeding great reward.” There is no greater reward. There is no force that can come against the Lord with any possible victory. There is no possible spiritual or physical reward that can come close to the wonderful goodness and loving-kindness of the Lord.
Now because of Jesus death on the cross we have been given access to His rich treasury of His glory. His glory being the abundance of all that He is. That is available to us. He will put us through trials and tests that we must pass as we come into this place of our exceeding reward. Ephesians 3:16-19
Ephesians 3:20 Now to Him Who, by (in consequence of) the (action of His) power that is at work within us, is able to carry out His purpose and do superabundantly, far over and above all that we dare ask or think — infinitely beyond out highest prayers, desires, thoughts, hopes, or dreams. Amp.
Ephesians 3:12 In Whom because of our faith in Him, we dare to have the boldness (courage and confidence) of free access — an unreserved approach to God with freedom and without fear.
We have so much more than Abram had through Jesus. We can have all of our needs supplied whatever they may be at any time of the day. We can come boldly and ask Him for the help that we need, if we ask in faith. Nothing is too difficult for Him!
