PSALM 37:11

But the meek (in the end) shall inherit the earth, and shall delight themselves in the abundance of peace.

Abundance -c) increase, esp. in number, to multiply by myriad, multiply, ten thousands.

Peace -c) “shalom” safe, rear, favor, well, quietness, happy, health, prosperity, welfare, to make complete.

Meek -c) humble, lowly, gentle.

When the meek inherit the earth, it will be their recompence. They have lived a humble, modest life following the Lamb wherever He goes. They do not force their own way but know they have something better. They are the opposite of the proud.

Proverbs 3:5 Lean on, trust and be confident in the Lord with all your heart and mind, and do not rely on your own understanding. 6. In all your ways acknowledge Him and He will direct and make straight and plain your paths.

The proud person is independent and thinks he knows best for himself and does not need to bother God. He leans on his own understanding and reasons his ways.

The humble person is dependent on God. He knows that God knows tomorrow and is already there making it work for his good. He sees everything, every trap, every problem and every attack from an enemy that is around the corner. How can we protect ourselves from what only He can see? We would be foolish to try. Yet that is what the proud do every day.

Romans 8:5 For those who are according to the flesh and controlled by its unholy desires, set their minds on and pursue those things which gratify the flesh… 6. Now the mind of the flesh which is sense and reason (without the Holy Spirit) is death… 7. The mind of the flesh with its carnal thoughts and purposes is hostile to God; for it does not submit itself to God’s Law, indeed it cannot.

The proud are in the flesh because they reason their ways without the Holy Spirit of which the end is death. Psalm 37 is saying not to fret over evil doers. They will eventually be gone. The Lord is a good and righteous judge. All will be fair and just in the end.

The humble (vs.6) have the mind of the Holy Spirit which is life and soul-peace (both now and forever). We will only be blessed by leaning on the Lord and not our own understanding which is the flesh. If we continually follow the Holy Spirit, it will lead us to sanctification, Romans 6:19. If we follow the mind of the flesh, it will lead to death.

It is up to us to choose the way that we want to take. Is it that important to have your own way about everything? Isn’t that what small children fight about? The Lord’s ways are so much greater than anything we could ask or think. He wants to share His wonderful creativity with us and bless us in ways we cannot fathom.
