Even so consider yourselves also dead to sin and your relation to it broken, but (that you are) alive to God — living in unbroken fellowship with Him — in Christ Jesus. Amp.
We must have a renewed mind and change the way we think. We still have this sin nature to deal with. So how do we?
In the KJV they use the word reckon instead of consider. Reckon in the Greek means to take an inventory. If we take an inventory of our life we should come up with Jesus. We must put our faith in what He says and that is the fact that He, by the cross has broken sin’s hold in our life. Now we can live unto Him, following His will for us.
Romans 6:14 For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace. KJV
Grace is the divine influence in our life. We have been changed and now must adjust ourselves to the fact that we do not have to do the same things we used to do. We have been given the power of His grace to walk after the Holy Spirit and not the flesh. The mind is what gets in the way. We must have a renewed mind and think like Jesus.
Romans 6:16 Do you not know that if you continually surrender yourselves to anyone to do his will, you are the slaves of him whom you obey, whether that be to sin, which leads to death, or to obedience which leads to righteousness — right doing and right standing with God?
It is in our obedience that we get the victory. The more we obey the promptings of the Holy Spirit the stronger we will become. The more we obey the sin nature or the flesh or someone who is trying to pull us away we become more entangled in sin which will eventually lead to death. We become slaves to the sin we have given into and now need deliverance. He will give it if we ask in faith. Sometimes we go through this over and over until we learn how to obey the Holy Spirit in our life.
We must remember that now we have the promise of unbroken fellowship with Jesus. We must know the devil will do whatever he can to stop you. He knows how valuable a Christian with unbroken fellowship with Jesus can be. We must bind the spirits that try to stop us every day.
The Lord will draw us with His sweet loving-kindness that far surpasses anything we can ever ask or think. He will teach us the way every day. What a wonderful path to be on!
