- I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help.
- My help cometh from the Lord, which made heaven and earth.
- He will not suffer thy foot to be moved: He that keepeth Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep.
- Behold, He that keepeth Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep.
- The Lord is thy keeper: the Lord is thy shade upon thy right hand.
- The sun shall not smite thee by day, nor the moon by night.
- The Lord shall preserve thee from from all evil: He shall preserve thy soul.
- The Lord shall preserve thy going out and thy coming in from this time forth, and even forevermore. KJV.
This is a very important Psalm to me. I try to pray verse 8 every day. It covers everything. If we expect help from the Lord, we will receive it. If He is our refuge, then we can expect Him to be our protection. It is when we are afraid that we are alone and in danger that we let Satan in. That is not faith. We must have confident expectation that He never sleeps and is always in control.
Then you say, well I believed and still this awful thing happened. It does not mean we will escape trials and afflictions. If we want to mature as a Christian, we must go through the refiner’s fire. He will always be with us in any trouble. He will always make all things work for our good. What is it that He wants us to learn?
He simply wants us to learn that we can take Him at His Word. So many times, I have gotten my eyes on the problem or circumstances and off of what the Lord had promised me. That is the way to waiting a long time for the answer. He patiently waits for us to believe Him.
Satan will do his best to change our focus from faith to self. We focus on our weakness instead of His great power. Then a murmuring spirit tries to plague us, and the wrong words come out that are not pleasing to the Lord.
If we come before the Lord with this murmuring attitude, it will hinder our prayers. I used to think that I was pouring out My heart to the Lord, when in fact I was complaining to Him. Such prayers are actually prayers of unbelief. There is unrest in our hearts and that is not faith or acceptable to Him.
Hebrews 4:3 For we which have believed do enter into rest…
When the soul is at rest, He can flow through us for others. We become a well of water springing up into everlasting life (John 4:14).
Now is the time we need Psalm 121. I know what to do but I can’t always do it. We become a product of our past experiences. We need the Lord to renew our minds and condition us to believe for the good He will bring and not brace ourselves for something bad to happen. That is fear. He wants us to be Satan proof and he does not flee from fear.
So many times, I have sung “I will lift my eyes to the hills, where does my help come from, my help comes from the Lord, maker of heaven and earth!” And then I knew He was taking care of me and my problem. He was answering me. This is His songs of deliverance, and He does it every day. We must let Him choose the songs. We must come before Him every day and not just at Church. We need help every day.
This is the road to faith. We must feed our souls the food from the Holy Spirit. The things of this world will leave you empty and dry. There is power in His anointed songs. But you must come and give Him a part of your day to be filled with His Holy Spirit and His presence. One way is through praise and worship. We must not neglect it.
