You shall have a song, as in the night when a holy feast is kept; and gladness of heart, as when one marches in procession with a flute to come to the temple on the mountain of the Lord, to the Rock of Israel.
This chapter is about the judgment He is sending in Egypt and other nations. He is waiting for Israel to come back to His care and stop running to Egypt for help. He sends them affliction and they cry to Him, and He delivers. He then showers them with blessings. Here are some of the blessings He is sending.
- He will answer them
- Their eyes will constantly behold Him
- He gives them rain
- Rich and plentiful produce
- Song in the night
- His glorious voice will be heard
- Every stroke of punishment will be to Israels’s timbrels & lyres
He is speaking to His Church today. The same blessings are possible today as also the same judgments. The Lord is upset with them because they keep going to Egypt for help instead of Him.
When we get saved, He wants to be our healer and our provider. We have to change things and not go to the world for help. There has been a spiritual change and we are on a different level. He wants to be our everything, but many times we keep living below the standard He wants for us. We become guilty of the sin of unbelief, and we will suffer if we do not learn His ways.
What is a song in the night? He first has to make it night. When we are in the midst of trouble and trials sometimes it can be very dark. We can feel that He is nowhere around, and we are all alone fighting a losing battle.
We can sit down in despair and give up the fight and go to the world for some temporary fix of entertainment. But if you are really a Christian, you know you will only be hurting yourself and those around you.
But if we are patient, He will hear us and send us a perfect song that will set us free. There are always glorious blessings in the midst of the hard times. Verse 30 says, He will cause His glorious voice to be heard and the descending blow of His arm to be seen.
This is also a promise for the last days. When all around is covered in darkness, the glory of the Lord will arise within His people. They will see His power coming upon the earth with great glory. They will shout for Joy because their King has finally come to reign. He will always use a special song. Let us have ears to hear this special song we so desperately need!
Deep places develop deep devotion. Depths of earnestness are stirred by depths of tribulation. Diamonds sparkle most in the darkness.
