REVELATION 21: 2-4
2. And I John, saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.
3. And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and He will dwell with them, and they shall be His people, and God Himself shall be with them, and be their God.
4. And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things have passed away. KJV
Tabernacle -c) “skene” – habitation.
Dwell -c) “skenoo” to tent or encamp, to occupy as a mansion, to reside (as God did in the Tabernacle of old, a symbol of protection and communion.)
Daniel 11:35 And some of those who are wise, prudent and understanding shall be weakened and fall: thus the insincere among the people will lose courage and become deserters. It will be a test to refine, to purify and make those among (God’s people) white, even to the time of the end; because it is yet for a time appointed. Amp.
The Lord is purifying His people to become His dwelling place. In Daniel 11:30-34, it talks about the Abomination of Desolation. Matthew 24:15 says that when you see this, for those in Judea to flee to the mountains. Jerusalem is in Judea. There are mountains all around Jerusalem.
Jerusalem is known to be where God’s presence is. So, we are to run to God’s presence for safety. Why is it a time to run for safety? He says, “So, when you see the appalling sacrilege spoken of by the prophet Daniel, standing in the Holy Place and let the reader take notice and ponder and consider and heed this.” What is the appalling sacrilege?
In Daniel 11:30-32, it says the continual daily burnt offering has been taken away by those who have polluted the sanctuary and an idol altar has been set up instead. These have broken their covenant with God, which means they no longer trust in Jesus. Something may have happened to them, that caused them to begin to question His goodness and faithfulness.
They are backslid but still in church and have polluted the sanctuary. They do not serve God any more, but their own fleshly desires. They have kept their position in the church but cause others to fall. Their life is not a sacrifice. God will not dwell with idols.
Romans 2:22 …You who abhor and loathe idols, do you rob temples — appropriate to your own use what is consecrated to God, thus doing sacrilege? Amp.
Once you are saved, Jesus purchased you and redeemed you. Your sins are gone because He paid your sin debt. Now you belong to Him. Your life is not your own. If you keep doing what you have always done, you are committing sacrilege and that is the “abomination of desolation,” when you continue in the church especially in leadership. That pollutes the sanctuary. You are robbing God because you belong to Him and you are using His temple for yourself.
He will come and bring His refiner’s fire with Him to cleanse and prepare His bride. He will bring His rewards and judgment. It is time to seek His presence now more than any time before. Every day gets closer and closer to the end. He will have a spotless bride and all will know who belong to Him and who do not.
