Philippians 4:7

And God’s peace be yours, that tranquil state of a soul assured of its salvation through Christ, and so fearing nothing from God and content with its earthly lot of whatever sort that is, that peace which transcends all understanding, shall garrison and mount guard over your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus. Amp.

Peace – c) safe, rest, favor, well, quietness, happy, health, prosperity, welfare.

Garrison – d) a fortified place with troops.

Salvation – c) deliverance, healer, save, victory, safety, rescue, make whole, preserved, liberty, prosperity, welfare, and protection.

Tranquil – d) free from emotional disturbance or agitation; calm, serene.

Serene – d) clear, unclouded.

God promises to give us His peace when we do things His way. His peace is full of His power, ruling all of our weaknesses. Our place is to be thankful and content with what He gives. Verse 6 says we are not to fret or have any anxiety or fear, but we are to pray about everything.

That is the answer to fear. We are to believe He will fix all of our problems so there is no reason to fear. We are to trust Him so completely that nothing will frighten us. That is what He expects. So why do we fear?

Mordecai refused to stand up or show fear before Haman. Haman became more and more enraged at Mordecai until He built gallows to Have him killed, Esther 5:9. This shows us that we are capable to refuse to show fear, but it will enrage the enemy. We need the peace of God to be that guard on our heart and mind.

With the peace of God flowing in us we will have a clear and serene sky. When we have a clear sky, there are no obstacles or clouds blocking our communion with God. When the communication lines are open, we have 24 hour a day access to the Father. That alone should give us perfect peace.

However, we know it is not that easy. Most of us are not like Mordecai. He has delivered me from more fears than I could count. He first started showing me that I had fear and to pray the covenant using Psalm 34:4.

I sought the Lord, and He heard me, and delivered me from all my fears. Ps.34:4

If we find the promise that we need in the Word of God, we can take it to Him and say, “This is what Your Word says, now I ask You to do it for me. You promised to supply my needs and You can not lie.” We have Him where He must do as He has said. That is praying the New Covenant, always in Jesus’ Name, always having a positive and thankful attitude.

Then we can come away in faith knowing, His peace will guard our hearts and minds. We will be at rest. Now we can focus on the good as we keep our eyes continually on Him and not on our weakness, not on the problem or listening to Satan’s lies. That is where we loose our peace.

The Lord lets Satan lie to us at times, to test us and to teach us how he works. We must put more faith in what God says, than in what Satan says. When I do this, He always tells me to focus on the good that He will bring. If we know good is always the outcome, we will learn not to fear.

Romans 8:28 And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are called according to His purpose. KJV

Refusing to fear is part of fighting the good fight. We cannot just give in to our fears and expect to grow in the Lord and be ready when he comes. Fear is the opposite of faith and without faith we cannot please Him. We all need to be pleasing to Him or we will not be happy. So we can focus on the good knowing, He will deliver us from all of our fears!

  1. Great devotional. The case of Esther and Modeccai vs Haman stood out for me .Faith is to be chosen over fear.Another case coming to me is The mother of Moses who chose to defy the order of the king to kill all male infants. That’s how faith can be sometimes. Its like if we die we die in face of fiece injunctions from authorities.
The list goes of Misheck,Shadreck and Abedinigo

    1. I used it because it ministered to me when my daughter was sick and I knew it was a spirit of fear. I desperately wanted to refuse to fear but did not learn it till much later. I believe He has answered my prayer and taught me how. I wrote about it in my Nov. 16 Post. Thanks for the comment. He is so good to me!
