GENESIS 50:19-20 And Joseph said to them, “Fear not: for am I in the place of God? (Vengeance is His, not mine.)

20. As for you, you thought evil against me: but God meant it for good, to bring about that many people should be kept alive, as they are this day.

Joseph was in Egypt 13 years before he stood before Pharaoh. The Lord was molding him and humbling him, making him a leader. He was learning God’s ways of faith in unfavorable circumstances.

There are three types of faith;

  1. In favorable circumstances
  2. In unfavorable circumstances
  3. In contrary circumstances

It takes time for the Lord to build up our faith. The only way for faith to grow is coming out of a trial believing that all is well and God will see you through no matter how impossible things may seem.

Matthew 24:10 says, “And then many will be offended and repelled and begin to distrust and desert (Him Whom they ought to trust and obey) and will stumble and fall away, and betray one another and pursue one another with hatred.”

This is the way Joseph’s brothers treated him. It started with Cain and Able. Cain was jealous of Able because God accepted his offering and did not accept Caine’s. Joseph’s brothers were jealous of the coat Jacob made for Joseph.

In the last days the Lord will cover His people with His Glory as darkness covers the earth. Many will see this covering that will be a type of Joseph’s coat. We must be clothed with the Spirit and let His Light shine through us even though it will bring persecution.

I am sure that Joseph had to struggle with forgiving his brothers. But I think he knew that getting out of prison depended on him forgiving them and letting go of the pain.

Some people are in prisons of bitterness because they just don’t know how to forgive. None of us know how to forgive. We have to endure the pain and then learn to let the Lord have it. We need to rely on Him to love with His love. This takes time and the Lord knows how to bring us through. We simply have to continue asking for the help we need. It eventually will come and the Lord will too lift us out of the prison of unforgiveness and He will make it work for our good.
