REVELATION 14:2-3
2. And I heard a voice from heaven like the sound of great waters and like the rumbling of mighty thunder; the voice I heard (seemed like the music) of harpists accompanying themselves on their harps.
3. And they sing a new song before the throne of God and before the four living creatures and before the elders (of the heavenly Sanhedrin). No one could learn (to sing) that song except the hundred and forty-four thousand who had been ransomed (purchased, redeemed) from the earth. Amp.
What is the new song? It is not necessarily your favorite song. When the Lord forgives us, He makes our heart brand-new. We are a new creation. Our heart is so happy because the love of God has been revealed to us and in us. There is nothing better than His love. We must go through His transformation and learn a new song.
It is a love song from Jesus. He loves us more than anyone we have ever known. It is a satisfying love that changes our desires from fleshly to spiritual. This song has to be learned because we are still flesh. Satan is still lying to us. We have to learn to reject all the lies and the weakness of ourselves keeping our eyes on the goodness of God and His plan for us.
We learn to sing and believe in His love for us in the hard times. It is easy to sing when all is calm. Sometimes it is hard to be thankful when all you see is trouble. He wants us to learn to rise above and see what He sees. His plan for us is always good. We must learn to see the good and sing His praises in the midst of pain and failure.
As we sing and thank Him for all He has done we are changed and so are our circumstances. If the Israelites had just praised Him when they were tested in the wilderness, they would have made it to the promised land. But they did not learn to sing but complained at every test they endured so they died in the wilderness and their children made it to the promised land instead of them.
We can hinder God’s plan for us if we do not believe and get stuck in the valley of fear. But if we sing His praises and thank Him in the midst of the trials He sends before long we will reap the victory. Then the song we sing will have a different sound than before and others will hear and be blessed as we sing it before the throne.
PSALM 40:3 And He has put a new song in my mouth, a song of praise to our God. Many shall see and fear – revere, and worship – and put their trust and confident reliance in the Lord. Amp.
