ESTHER 2:17
17. And the king loved Esther more than all the women, and she obtained grace and favor in his sight more than all the maidens, so that he set the royal crown in her head and made her queen instead of Vashti.
Mordecai was one of the captives taken to Babylon by king Nebuchadnezzar. Esther was the daughter of his uncle which would make her his cousin. Her parents had died so Mordecai took her in as his own daughter.
They were in the Persian Empire in the days of Ahasuerus. The king was having a feast and commanded his Queen Vashti to come but she refused. He was enraged at her and was told by those next to him that that would cause other wives to not honor their husbands. So, he sought another Queen and called for Vashti no more.
This is a parable of the last days and Jesus and His bride. Is not He doing the same with His Church? He calls them to come to His table or feast over and over. But He is put off over and over. So many things come before Him, family, career and self-will. One day He will choose one who has answered His call.
They sought the most beautiful virgins in the land to come before the king. Esther was one of them. Esther obeyed Mordecai and the king’s eunuch in all their suggestions. The one who the king delighted in and called for by name was to come before the king again.
The king loved Esther more than all the women and became the new Queen. We know that the Jews were about to come under attack by Haman to completely destroy them. The Lord knew of this and was setting up their safety net. It had little to do with Esther’s beauty or the king, but everything to do with the Lord.
The Lord put that love in the king’s heart for Esther. He placed her in the right place at the right time. All fell together in a perfect plan to deliver the Israelites from their enemies.
The key to being in the right place is obedience. Mordecai was obedient taking in Esther. Esther was obedient to Mordecai and the eunuch. Vashti was not obedient to the king’s command.
1 JOHN 3:22
22. And we receive from Him whatever we ask for because we (watchfully) obey His orders – observe his suggestions and injunctions, follow his plan for us — and habitually practice what is pleasing to Him. Amp.

Amen, may we all learn obedience, and respond to him when he calls.

Trust and obedience. I love how God caused the king to love Esther and not just for the purpose of making her life better and easier. Esther was queen to save her people from annihilation. ❤️🙏🏾
