REVELATION 2:3-5

3. I know you are enduring patiently and are bearing up for My name’s sake, and you have not fainted or become exhausted or grown weary.

4. But I have this (one charge to make) against you, that you have left (abandoned) the love that you had at first — you have deserted Me, your first love.

5. Remember then from what heights you have fallen. Repent — change the inner man to meet God’s will — and do the works you did previously (when first you knew the Lord). Or else I will visit you and remove your lampstand from its place, unless you change your mind and repent. Amp.

DEFINITIONS

Deserted -d) to abandon, forsake, to leave one’s post without permission.

Repent -d) to feel sorry for a past error, sin, omission, etc. 2. to feel such regret as to change one’s mind.

Lampstand – KJV candlestick

Candlestick -c) a portable lamp or illuminator.

The Lord says to change the inner man to meet God’s will and do the works you did previously when you first knew the Lord or else, I will remove your lampstand. If we are to do the works, we did at first, that would mean when we first began. We would be like a small child learning to walk, leaning on the Lord alone, which is what He wants.

He is telling us He will remove our lampstand, unless we repent. The lampstand is the Holy Spirit in our life that is illuminating or shining of His Light through us. It is our witness. And eventually He will remove your works and give them to another.

It is easy to get caught up in the many activities of the church if we allow it. I remember a long time ago I stayed after church and was with the pastor’s wife. She had 5 kids and so many people kept knocking on the door. She had interruption after interruption, plus her children were so time consuming. I went home and prayed for her. She had so much patience and was so sweet to everyone. I would have lost my patience much sooner.

That is how the enemy gets his foot in the door to steal whatever he can. We must, however, take a stand and let others know we need our prayer time and our time alone with the Lord or everything suffers.

If we are not rich in our relationship with Jesus, His Holy Spirit will drain out and all that is left will be self. We know we can do all things through Christ, but not without Him. We have to check our love thermometer and make sure the love is there. He must be the most important thing in our lives. We are most important to Him to the point that He gave up every drop He had for us.

DAVID WILKERSON — SUBJECT — THE BRIDE COMPANY

Their affections are not set on material things: rather their hearts are always where their Lord is. They may be relatively few in number, but they have eyes for no one but Jesus. He has a magnetic pull on their hearts that draws them into His presence.
