PSALM 27:13-14 I had fainted, unless I had believed to see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living.

14. Wait on the Lord: be of good courage, and He shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say on the Lord. KJV

DEFINITIONS

Faint – d) without strength, weak, done without strength or enthusiasm, timid, a condition of temporary loss of consciousness.

Goodness – c) the best, beauty, gladness, welfare, joy.

Wait – d) to be ready, to stay in a place or remain inactive until something expected takes place.

Courage – d) the quality of being fearless.

This scripture is telling us how vital our faith is. We must believe to see the Lord’s goodness when things may not be good. How do we see the Lord’s goodness when it is not clearly being manifest? We must rely on our knowledge of the Lord and the memories of what He has done for us in the past especially in times of troubles.

The Lord is always trying to build up our faith. He wants us to be at rest and at peace knowing that if our life is in His hands we should be calm in any trial. Then why is it that we are usually wondering why all this is happening? We have a sin nature that needs to die. That is what being crucified with Christ is all about.

Being at rest means to cease. Self has to cease. We are to stop striving and worrying and know that He is good. He always has a good plan for me no matter how things look. We are to focus our thoughts on Him and His goodness.

David is saying here that if we don’t know that we are going to see His goodness, we will faint or we will be at loss and suffer weakness and a loss of enthusiasm. This is not faith and is not pleasing to Him. And we can not be happy if we are not pleasing to Him.

The Lord continually performed miracle after miracle for the Israelites and they continually complained about every situation. He gave them more than enough chances to believe to see His goodness until He knew they were not going to believe and then judgment came. Only two out of all the people believed and those were Joshua and Caleb. What was the key to their faith?

They believed the Lord delighted in them, Num. 14:8. They never doubted the Lord’s good plan for them no matter how big the giants in the land were. They knew that their God was bigger than the giants. Their eyes were on the Lord and not the situation.

Jude 21 Guard and keep yourselves in the love of God: expect and patiently wait for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Messiah, which will bring you unto life eternal. Amp.

The only way we can keep ourselves in the love of God is to focus on the good things He has done for us keeping our eyes off of the present circumstances in our life. These things are temporary. He is waiting for us to learn to find our courage in who He is and His promise to us.

That is why we should always take our Bibles to Him and point out the scripture that we need for Him to answer and say, “You said and You cannot lie, so help me to have Your strength to wait for my answer.” He is waiting for us to ask for His help in the right way.
